Sharing is never easy for siblings but these three children appear to be doing a pretty good job of avoiding combat over rights to the toy rocking horse. The children, dressed in white sailor type suits are quite adorable. None of the three kids look all too happy posing for photographer Louis Heuser. Heuser’s name is stamped on the reverse of the photograph but no address is given. Research was not productive in finding the location of Mr. Heuser’s studio.
A cute little girl with a wonderful smile sits atop a rocking horse at Lauder Brothers studio in Dublin, Ireland. She is holding the reins of the very detailed rocking horse and her young mother poses behind the girl, in position to keep her daughter securely on the horse. The Lauder gallery had two locations, 32 Westmoreland Street and 45 Lower Sackville Street. Lauder Brothers studio began operation as a daguerreotype studio on Capel Street in Dublin in 1853. The owner of the studio was Edmund Stanley Lauder, who died in 1895. Lauder Brothers was in business on Lower Sackville Street between the 1850’s and 1904. It was operated by a number of members of the Lauder family. Business directories list the studio as Lauder Brothers between about 1880 and 1884.. Edmund Lauder’s son, James Stack Lauder (1853-1923), founded the Lafayette Studio in 1880. He became the first Irish photographer to be granted the Royal Warrant. He earned this honor after photographing Queen Victoria in her Golden Jubilee year (1887). James Stack Lauder had three brothers who also became photographers. The brothers names were George Marsh Lauder (1858-1922), Edmund Stanley Lauder Jr. (1859-1895), and William Harding Lauder (1866-1918). (SOLD)
This cabinet card is a portrait of Edwin Jacobs, son of Edwin and Lilla Jacobs, posing on a rocking horse. Note the detailed rocking horse which features reins, harness, stirup, mane and long tail. Young Edwin doesn’t appear to be excited about his opportunity to ride the horse. The photographer is Johns and Faught of Lexington, Kentucky. This cabinet card features an Italian family posing for a photographer at the turn of the century in Paola, Italy. Father and mother are seen posing with their four daughters and one son. Dad appears to be holding a cigar and the family is flanked by a flowering plant on one side and a rocking horse on the other side (next to the boy).
This Cabinet Card is an image of a child posing on a rocking horse wearing beautiful riding attire. The child appears to be holding a riding crop or possibly a sword. The rocking horse in this photograph is so detailed and captures the likeness of a real horse. They don’t make them like they use to. The photographer is unknown.
