This carte de visite photograph features an adorable little girl. She is well dressed and is holding a parasol. This cdv photo was taken at the Berlin (Germany) studio of Sophus Williams. Mr. Williams was a significant figure in the early days of photography. His photographs are cited in many articles and they appear in multiple esteemed museums. Sophus Williams’s actual name was Sophus Vilhelm Schou. He was of Danish origin but became a German photographer and publisher. He was born in Copenhagen in 1835 and he died in Grabow, Germany in 1900. He went to London in 1859 and at an unknown date, moved to Berlin where he passed himself off as being British. He was married to Agnes Klitz (1843-1911). In 1868, Sophus partnered with businessman Rudolph Gustav Leonhard Reinhold Knaak , to buy out an art dealer’s trading company (E. Linde & Co). The firm was located in Berlin, Germany. Sophus Williams published the work of many photographers and participated in Vienna’s 1873 World Exhibition. His publishing firm was well known for many formats, including Stereoscopic photos, Carte de Visite images, Cabinet Cards, and Leporellos. What are Leporellos? They are printed material folded into an “accordion-pleat” style. The method is also known as a “concertina fold”. Williams’s “Linde & Co” was well known for their photographs of paintings. Williams was active in Berlin through much of the 1860’s and 1880’s. Sophus Williams succumbed to a heart attack in 1900. His work can be found in high profile museums such as J Paul Getty Museum (Los Angeles, CA) and the George Eastman Museum (Rochester, NY), The Metropolitan Museum of Art (New York City), The British Museum (London, England), and The Altes Museum (Berlin). This carte de visite image is in good condition (see scans). (COST)
THE ADORABLE DUPONT CHILDREN POSE WITH THEIR SLED IN STUDIO WINTER SCENE
These kids are adorable and beautifully dressed. They are wearing their scarves around their waist instead of around their neck. The two kids are sporting great coats and winter hats. The oldest child hold the sled’s rope while the youngest child sits on the sled. The youngest child has many ribbons on the front of his/her coat and the bottom of his/her coat is styled as a skirt. The older child is wearing a shorts suit. Note the wintry snow covered scenery in the backdrop. The reverse of the cabinet card has an inscription stating that the kids in this photograph are the “DuPont Children” (see below). Could they be part of the famous DuPont family? The photographer’s name and the location of the photographer’ studio are unidentified. This cabinet card has great clarity and is in very good condition (see scans). Please note that my scanner did not adequately capture the sepia color of this photograph.

PRETTY LITTLE GIRL AND HER DOLL IN CHAUMONT, FRANCE
This vintage photograph features an adorable little girl holding her cherished doll as she poses for her portrait at the Lancelot studio in Chaumont, France. The town is located in the North Central part of the country. Dolls have been around for a long time. In fact, there is archaeological evidence that indicates that dolls may by the oldest known toy. Wooden dolls were found in Egyptian tombs that date back to the 21st century BC. Remarkably, dolls with movable limbs and removable clothing existed in at least 200 BC. This vintage photo is in very good condition (see scans). SOLD
ADORABLE LITTLE GIRL WEARING THE BIGGEST COLLAR IN THE WORLD
OK. It may not be the biggest collar in the world, but it’s pretty big. The smiling cute young girl seen in this vintage real photo postcard, by my estimation, is curtseying after giving a dance performance. Her shoes, stockings, short dress, and the flower in her hair are all reasons for my hypothesis. And what about the collar? It appears to be on steroids. I don’t think the collar is something she would wear in everyday life. I am wondering if she is wearing a costume designed to make her look like a flower? What do you think? I must admit, the “collar” reminds me of an “Elizabethan Collar” worn by dogs after surgery. This is a very unique image. The photo was taken by a private photographer and not mass produced to be sold by studios to the general public. This real photo postcard portrait is in very good condition (see scans).

This cabinet card portrait features a pretty young girl celebrating her communion by being photographed by A. Alvarez at his studio in Santiago de Cuba. Santiago de Cuba is the second largest city in Cuba and is located in the southeastern part of the island. The Battle of San Juan Hill was fought in this area. The 1898 battle marked the defeat of Spain in the Spanish American War. This photograph was likely taken only a few years after this war ended. PORTRAIT OF AN ADORABLE LITTLE GIRL STANDING ON A BENCH IN PLYMOUTH, NEW HAMPSHIRE
An adorable little girl with an impish smile poses for her portrait at the studio of Harry S. Heath in Plymouth, New Hampshire. The nicely dressed child is standing on a bench. The photographer did a great job of using fabric in setting up the pose for this photograph. Heath created an interesting effect with the material that causes his subject to really stand out in the image. This talented photographer was born in Manchester, New Hampshire in 1866 and died in that city in 1898 at the age of thirty-one. He was married at the time of his death. His cause of death was Pyaemia. This disease is a type of septicaemia frequently caused by staph infection. He is buried in Ashland, New Hampshire. This cabinet card portrait has excellent clarity and is in very good condition (see scans).

PORTRAIT OF AN ADORABLE LITTLE GIRL HUGGING HER DOLL (AIN’T SHE SWEET)

This vintage photograph is sweet. The photo features a young girl hugging her doll. The child has beautiful eyes and a wonderful smile. She looks so sweet. Interestingly, both she and her doll have bangs that look very much alike. The girl is wearing a pretty sweater. This color photograph is a former resident of a photo album. It is evident that the image was once held in place in an album by photo corners. This photograph found it’s way to me from Argentina. The photo measures about 3.5″ x 7.5″ and is in very good condition (see scans).
