wedding couple 5 1

The young wedding couple pictured in this portrait are well dressed and quite attractive. The pretty bride looks terrific in her wedding gown and bridal veil. She is holding a bouquet of flowers in her white gloved hand. The handsome groom is holding a pair of white gloves. One suspects that this couple is well-to-do judging by their appearance. This cabinet card portrait was taken by the studio of Otto Witte who operated his photography business in Berlin, Germany.

ROW ROW ROW YOUR BOAT GENTLY DOWN THE STREAM. MERRILY, MERRILY, MERRILY, MERRILY, LIFE IS BUT A DREAM (ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU HAVE TWO BEAUTIFUL WOMEN DOING THE ROWING)

ONTHERIVER_0006This cabinet card photograph features a fine gentleman wearing a ship captains cap and sitting between two beautiful finely dressed young women on a paddle boat. The women are holding the oars while the man rests on a blanket wrapped bench. I suppose this image has comical undertones. The boat on the lake looks like a real outdoor scene but it is most likely all taking place in a terrific well accessorized studio. The photographer of this unique image is Herrmann Witt and his studio was located in Lubbenau, Germany.

CUTE LITTLE GIRL WAITS FOR HER SHIP TO COME IN AT STUDIO IN WOLGAST, GERMANY

wolgast

This cabinet card portrait features a little girl, dressed in traditional costume, waiting at a faux dock for a ship to arrive. It will be a long wait because she is standing inside the studio of Hermann Sontag (Art Publisher) which had two location inside of Germany. He had galleries in the towns of Wolgast and Zinnowitz. I understand why the words “Kunst-Verlag”  (Art Publishing) is beside Mr. Sontag’s name. The backdrop in this portrait is masterful as is Sontag’s use of props (trunks and fishing nets). The child in this portrait is adorable. Note her interesting shoes and that she is holding a bouquet of flowers.

TWO FASHIONABLE LADIES IN DRESDEN, GERMANY

TWOLADIESTwo beautifully dressed women pose for a photographer in Dresden, Germany. The shorter woman clings securely to the taller women. Both are wearing leather gloves. It appears that the photographer of this image is the Thiele studio though it is unclear why the name “Otto Mayer” is also listed. Perhaps a knowledgeable visitor to the cabinet card gallery can offer clarification. Printing on the reverse of this photograph also indicates that it was taken in 1882. Photographer Hugo Thiele of Dresden is cited in the British Journal of Photography (1876). He was commended for producing a wonderful portrait of a child that had been published by a German publication.  Both of the women in this image are identified on the reverse of the photograph. The subjects names are “Nellie Leavet” (from New York) and “Gretchen Von Littichau” (from Dresden). Perhaps Miss Leavet was a friend or relative visiting Miss Von Littichau in Dresden and they commissioned this photograph to commemorate the occasion.
