This vintage real photo postcard shows a hat maker in action. She sits at her millinery table and flashes the photographer a smile. Note her hat making supplies on the table. This vintage photograph features a group of twelve men posing for their photo as they eat a meal. The men have bowls and cups and one of the men is holding a ladle for a large bowl or pot that sits on the table. The men are dressed similarly. Six of them are wearing berets. These guys are certainly expressive. The gent in the middle of the top row looks shocked and fearful; as if he saw something disturbing. The fellow in the middle of the middle row looks impish. What brings these men together? Perhaps, they are workers at a factory having lunch. They may also be soldiers or even prisoners. An inscription on the reverse of the photo indicates that the picture was taken in Dogneville, a town located in northeastern France. This photograph has excellent clarity. The photo is trimmed and measures about 4.25 x 3.25 in. The image is in overall good condition (see scans). (SOLD)
This vintage postcard features an early Synagogue located in Baltimore, Maryland. The temple was on Eutaw Place. A street sign bearing the name “Eutaw Place” can be seen near the right edge of the image. The temple was built in 1892 to serve the German Jewish immigrants living in Baltimore. The synagogue seated 2,200 people. This postcard was published by Raphael Tuck & Sons as part of a series (no.1016).The card has a crease on it’s bottom left hand corner. This vintage real photo postcard features pretty British theater actress, Audrey Ford. “The Sketch” (1896) includes her in their review of the stage play, “Josiah’s Dream”. The reviewer states that “Miss Audrey Ford is very piquant, and has a charming turn of humour”. A visit to the dictionary revealed that “piquant” is defined as intriguing or stimulating. This postcard was published by Rotary Photo as part of a series (No.4416 C). Miss Ford’s portrait is by the Foulsham & Banfield studio. The card was postmarked in 1910. This postcard is in fair condition. Note the stain in the upper left hand corner of the card (see scans).

This vintage postcard features Hotel Clinton, located in Jordan, New York. Jordan is part of the Syracuse metropolitan area. Note the historic WCTU fountain in front of the hotel. The Woman’s Christian Temperance Union erected fountains such as this aound the US. The organization was founded in Ohio in 1874. The group obtained pledges from people promising absain from alcohol, and later, tobacco, and illicit drugs. The WCTU erected public water fountains across the country as a symbolic means of substituting water for alcohol. This vintage postcard was published by William Jubb. This vintage real photo postcard features two young men out for a drive in a Renault convertible. Note the emblem above the front grill of the car, and also the folded down front windshield. The stretch of road that the two rode down is quite beautiful. It is a dirt road with a canopy of leaves from two columns of trees lining the way. The reverse of this postcard reveals that the postcard formerly resided in a postcard album. Writing on the back of the card indicates that it was written in 1919. The Artura stamp box dates the card somewhere between 1908 and 1924. This vintage postcard is good illustration of Automobile History. (SOLD)
This vintage lithographic postcard features a portrait of a group of nine horseback riders in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Note that the three women in the photograph are riding side saddle. The caption boasts that riders can ride horses every day in Hot Springs. Hot Springs was known for its bathhouses and hotels. Visitors flocked there to relax and improve their health. In addition, during the early twentieth century, Hot Springs was the site for many baseball training camps. The Boston Red Sox and Chicago Cubs were among the teams that made Hot Springs their training site. Babe Ruth walked the streets of the town and frequented the bath spas and gambled at the local horse racing track. This postcard was published by Charles Cutter who operated his company in Hot Springs. The postcard was likely published around 1909. The postcard is addressed to someone in Wisconsin and the message indicates that the sender is in the photograph and it was taken about twenty years before the postcard was sent.

This cabinet card photograph features Rugby star, Arthur Boucher (11870-1948). He certainly looks fit in this portrait by the famous celebrity photographer, Napoleon Sarony. Boucher was a Welsh international rugby union forward and he began playing club rugby for Newport ((1889/90 season). During the next decade, he captained them for three seasons. He was a strong and quick player and he passed well on the run. He was well known for his kicking skills. He kicked several drop goals each season. Boucher was one of the last greal all-round Welsh players before position specialization became the norm. Boucher played for the international Barbarians and became club secretary for the team between 1894 and 1899. Stickers on the reverse of this photograph indicate that the image was once owned by Culver Service. Culver Pictures was a service that collected photographs that for a fee could be used by the media to accompany the stories appearing in their publications. Culver Service was established in 1926.
