The card is color tinted and part of a series (no1352). I used an online translation app to learn the meaning of the caption at the bottom of this photo postcard. The translation is “kiss the mistress – he turns a deaf ear: have we, I ask you, such demands“. The quotation puts a spotlight on the strong independent nature of house cats. The pretty young woman seen in this vintage real photo postcards is a contestant in the 1931 Miss Europe beauty contest. She represented Spain in the competition. Her name was Ermelina Carreno (1912-1999). She became Miss Spain when she won the competition representing the region Castilla-La Mancha. A book about her was written by Enrique Sanchez Lubian and published in 2009. The book was entitled “Ermelin: The Beauty That Gave Birth To The Republic: Origins Of The Misses Contests In Spain, 1929-1932”. The Miss Europe contest was established by a French journalist in 1927. Most of the women in this event had won their own country’s national beauty contest, and used the Miss Europe contest as a warm-up for the Miss World pageant. This postcard was published by the well known and acclaimed photographer, Alfred Noyer. His Paris studio operated between 1910 and the 1940’s. Most of the women in the competition had won national beauty contests in their own country and progressed to the Miss Europe contest as a warm-up to competing for the Miss World title. This photographic postcard presents Miss Russia, Miss Austria, and Miss Holland. The three contestants are beautiful and marvelously dressed. This postcard was published by Alfred Noyer. This vintage real photo postcard is part of a series named “Les Plus Belles Femmes de France” (The Most Beautiful Women of France). This series is titled “L’Emeraude” (The Emeralds). There were a number of different series published associated with “Les Plus Belles Femmes de France”. As advertised, the model for this portrait is truly beautiful. This postcard was published by well known and acclaimed photographer, Alfred Noyer. His Paris studio operated between 1910 and the 1940’s. Many of the postcards he produced featured nudes or risque images. ADDENDUM: The beautiful woman in this photograph has been identified. I stumbled upon her name while researching another postcard portrait (Miss Hungary) from the 1930’s. This enchanting woman is Agnes Souret (1902-1928) and she was “Miss France” in the inaugural Miss France contest of 1920. She was a actress and a dancer.
