TWO ADORABLE SISTERS SITTING ON A BENCH IN NERAC, FRANCE (CDV)

This carte de visite photograph features two adorable sisters sitting on a studio bench in Nerac, France. The two girls are wearing identical dresses, both accessorized with lace. The children are also wearing hair bows. Interestingly, one child is wearing the bow on the left side of her head while the second child’s bow is on the right side of her head. I suppose this was the work of the photographer who was intent on creating symmetry in this image. Take note of the ornate carvings on the legs of the bench. This photograph was taken at the Tuja studio. As stated earlier, the studio was located in Nerac, France. Nerac is located in southwestern France. This carte de visite photograph is in excellent condition (see scans).

This photo was taken by Hendricks & Co., a studio in Allegheny, Pennsylvania. The town was originally named Allegheny City and it was established in 1788. In 1907, it was annexed by the city of Pittsburgh. The photographer of this image is John P Hendricks. He is listed in the 1891 and 1893 Pittsburgh City Directories. PORTRAIT OF AN ADORABLE LITTLE GIRL HUGGING HER TORTOISE SHELL TABBY CAT

This vintage real photo postcard features an adorable little girl hugging her tortoise shell tabby cat. The child appears entranced by the gorgeous feline. This postcard was published by Alfred Noyer. He was a well known and acclaimed photographer. His Paris studio operated between 1910 and the 1940’s. This postcard is dated in the year, 1920. The card is color tinted and part of a series (no1352). I used an online translation app to learn the meaning of the caption at the bottom of this photo postcard. The translation is “kiss the mistress – he turns a deaf ear: have we, I ask you, such demands“. The quotation puts a spotlight on the strong independent nature of house cats. This real photo postcard is in very good condition (see scans).

This vintage real photo postcard features an adorable little girl. She is carrying two beautiful cats. One is peeking out of a wicker basket. This little girl is quite industrious. She is also transporting a second cat, a cloth bag, and a bouquet of flowers. She must have been so busy remembering what cargo she was taking from home that she forgot to put on her shoes. This postcard was made in France and was published by Fauvette (no.1319). The postcard was most likely published in 1913 as a closely numbered Fauvette card in the Cabinet Card Gallery collection has a 1913 postmark.   ADDENDUM: Further research reveals that the model in this postcard is most likely, Hani Reinwald, sister of popular postcard model, Grete Reinwald. PORTRAIT OF A YOUNG GIRL AND HER DOG IN GORLESTON-ON-SEA, ENGLAND

burrouhgs4 burroughs5

This vintage real photo postcard features a young girl and her dog. The photographer did an excellent job of photographing the dog. Capturing the dog in such a terrific pose couldn’t have been an easy task. I wonder how many photos had to be taken to accomplish the feat. The girl in this photograph has a wide smile and is smartly dressed. This photo portrait was taken at the Pageant House Studio. operated by  F. S. Burroughs. The studio was located in Gorleston-On-Sea. Gorleston is a town in Norfolk, England. The name and address of the studio are embossed in the lower right hand corner of the card.  SOLD

TWO ADORABLE LITTLE GIRLS AND A BOTTLE OF MINERAL OIL ON STEROIDS (1905)

When I first saw this vintage real photo advertising postcard, I thought it was inappropriate. I could not imagine why two little girls would be used to advertise a bottle of liquor. After some research, I realized that all wasn’t what it seemed to be. In fact, these two adorable girls were actually advertising a brand of mineral oil. The name  of this brand was Hunyadi Janos. Janos was a military and political leader of the Hungarian military during the 15th century. He fought the Ottomans. The label on the bottle says “bitterquelle” which is a mineral or spring water. The owner of the company that produced the product was Andreas Saxlehner of Budapest, Hungary. The mineral water was advertised as a laxative. It was claimed that the mineral water was for fighting “the evil consequences of indiscretion in diet”.  The product was also promoted as being effective at relieving hemorrhoids. This postcard has a 1905 postmark from Yonne, France. This vintage postcard is in very good condition (see scans).   SOLD

She is holding either a small pail or a purse in her hand. This photo portrait postcard is in very good condition (see scans).
