The soldier appears to be of the Spanish American War era but there is no identifying information available. The soldier appears to be an officer and is assuming a Napoleonic type pose with his hand strategically placed under his coat. The photography studio of Cassey & Riley has a photograph in the Ransom Eli Olds collection (Oldsmobile founder). An 1892 photograph by the studio shows the inventor Olds with his experimental Olds Gasoline Steam Carriage.

ODETTE TYLER: THEATER ACTRESS AND DAUGHTER OF A CONFEDERATE GENERAL
This Cabinet Card is a photograph of actress Odette Tyler (1869-1936) and it is photographed by famed celebrity photographic studio, the Pach Brothers. Tyler appeared in many productions including “The Love Route” (1906) which appeared on Broadway. She was an American actress and comedienne. She worked for Charles Frohman and was a member of a number of theater companies including the Madison Square Company (1884-1885). She authored a book, “Boss: A Story of Virginia Life”. Tyler was born Elizabeth Kirkland in Savannah, Georgia. Tyler’s father was a West Point graduate and served as a Confederate General during the Civil War (General William Kirkland). BRITISH SOLDIER IN MUSSOORIE, INDIA
A British soldier poses for his Cabinet Card portrait in Mussoorie, India. The photographer is J. Bell Brothers. Mussoorie is a city 34 km from Dehradun in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. The city is located in the foothills of the Himalaya Mountain ranges and the city is sometimes referred to as “Queen of the Hills”.
WELL ARMED SPANISH AMERICAN WAR SOLDIER IN SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS
This Cabinet Card is a portrait of a Spanish American War era soldier posing in San Antonio, Texas. San Antonio was a city where a number of troops were organized for participating in this war. Note that the soldier is well armed with both a rifle, bayonet, and knife. Check out his ammunition belt. Ironically, the cabinet card’s photographer, Lewison Brothers, headquarters their studio on South “Alamo” Street. This street is the location of the famous Alamo which was the location of a battle to the death which occurred in the war for Texas independence.

This Cabinet Card is a portrait of what appears to be a British Army officer flanked by his two Chinese servants. The likely location of this photograph is China, but there is no geographic or photographic studio identifying information to be found on this Cabinet Card.
DECORATED NAVY SAILOR AND ONLY FIVE YEARS OLD; OR, PERHAPS A BOY IN COSTUME
A young boy, wearing what appears to be a naval uniform with a cap and large medals, poses for this cabinet card portrait. Perhaps his father was a sailor. The medal on the left has two crossed rifles. Hopefully a visitor to this site can identify the medals and branch of service. The photographer is Gardner of New York City.
PRUSSIAN SOLDIER AND HIS FAMILY POSE IN FURSTENWALDE, GERMANY
A Prussian soldier, his wife, and son pose for their portrait in the Schmidt studio in Furstenwalde, Germany. The photograph is dated 1898. The photograph shows a bit more intimacy than most during this time period. The soldiers son is holding his fathers hand and the soldiers wife appears to have her arm against her husbands shoulder. Note the soldiers moustache; it curves upward rather than the regularly seen downward. Perhaps a visitor to this entry can ascertain the soldiers rank and branch of service.
PORTRAIT OF RUSSIAN SAILOR AND WIFE (1906)
This Russian cabinet card is a portrait of a uniformed Russian sailor and his wife. The reverse of the card has an inscription in Russian which states “In good memory for dear Ivan Afansevich and Agrippa Petrovna, from Maria and Aleksandr Limonnivov”. The inscription is dated January 30th, 1906.
FOUR SPANISH AMERICAN WAR SOLDIERS READING A MAGAZINE IN ILLINOIS
This Cabinet Card captures four Spanish American War era soldiers posing for their portrait in the studio of Vestine, located in Rockford, Illinois. The men are reading a magazine together and apparently find something amusing. Note the men’s military hats and overcoats. CIVIL WAR VETERAN BEDECKED WITH MEDALS IN MISSOURI
This Cabinet card is a terrific image of a union army Civil War Veteran. He is wearing three medals. One medal identifies him as J. W. Plummer, a member of company G in the 29th Indiana Infantry Regiment. The second medal represents his membership in the Civil War Veterans Group, the Grand Army of the Republic (G.A.R.). Further research reveals that Mr Plummer, is John W. Plummer and entered his unit as a private and left with the same rank. His regiment was organized in 1861 and fought at Shiloh, Corinth, Stones River, and the Battle of Chickamauga. The unit suffered 304 dead during the course of the war. The photographer is Tussey of Schell City, Missouri.
