A family of four poses for their portrait at the Elite Studio in Great Falls, Montana. Everyone is dressed in their nicest clothes for their day at the photographic studio. Note how the older daughter is posed. Her love for her dad is quite evident. Father’s pride in his family is also evident in this photograph. This family has the appearance of a Scandinavian family and in fact, the photograph is from the estate of a Norwegian immigrant family that settled in North Dakota and Montana. It is not clear who operated the Elite Studio at the time of this photograph. The Bulletin of Photography (1916) reported that “Louis Heyn of the Elite Studio sold an interest in his business” to employee Harry J. Keeley. It is likely that the studio belonged to Heyn at the time of this photograph.

A well dressed man with a large mustache and a clump of chin whiskers, poses for his portrait at the studio of Eggan, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It is difficult to identify the photographer of this photograph. The city of Minneapolis hosted a number of photographers that shared the name “Eggan”, each of them sharing the same studio address. Apparently the Eggan family, which was of Norwegian descent, had a passion for photography. Photographers included Ole P., Halvor P., S. A., Sevor P., Stephen, and James Eggan.
SWEET BABY CHILLING IN WICKER CHAIR IN ADA, MINNESOTA
This cabinet card captures a very cute baby posing on a wicker chair. The baby is wearing a long gown and has a terrific sweet facial expression. The photographer is Halvor William Thune (1857-1932). He was born in Iowa of Norwegian native parents. He opened a gallery in Ada, Minnesota in 1883 and Thune still operated the gallery in the 1920’s. He was civically active and held a number of county and village offices including Mayor of Ada and Chief of the Fire Department. Thune also found time to operate his farm.
