This vintage postcard features the Cohen Brothers Department Store in Jacksonville, Florida. The store was known as “The Big Store” and this postcard shows the business occupying a full city block. Note the antique cars parked on the streets bordering the store. Cohen Brothers was founded by Samuel and Morris Cohen in 1867. They were later joined by their brother Jacob. In 1959, the business was bought by May Department Stores and was renamed, May-Cohens.The business was sold due to a slumping downtown business environment and the high costs necessary to operate the “Big Store”. The business was permanently closed in 1987. The card was published by Tichnor Quality Views. SOLD
