BEAUTIFUL PORTRAIT OF THREE SISTERS : F. BIXIO : BUENOS AIRES, ARGENTINA 

This vintage real photo postcard features three sisters with beautiful smiles. The young woman posed in the center is holding a book. Interestingly, upon close examination, the book is actually a photographic journal called “Studio Light : Magazine of Information for the Photographer”. The photographer of this postcard portrait is Florencio Bixio. He was a talented photographer who operated photo studios in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He was active between at least 1900 and 1930. He died in Buenos Aires in 1933. Bixio specialized in studio portraits, wedding portraits, and photos of entertainers. He also was a correspondent for the magazine “Caras and Caretas”, as well as a producer of photo postcards. Between 1900 and 1930 he opened photography studios in partnership with two other photographers. These studios were called “Bixio and Merlino” and Bixio and Castiglioni”. He was of Italian descent and emigrated to Argentina in 1896. He died in Buenos Aires in 1933. (SOLD)

LITTLE GIRL IN BED WITH TEDDY BEAR, TOY CLOWN, & STUFFED ANIMALS : RPPC (1910)

This vintage real photo postcard features a darling little girl laying in bed with a number of her toys. Note the teddy bear, stuffed animals (including an elephant), and the toy clown (pierrot). The card was published by Rotophot (RPH) and is part of a series (no.2605/6). SOLD

ANTIQUE CAR AND DRIVER : NASH ROADSTER : VINTAGE PHOTOGRAPH

This vintage snapshot photograph features a proud driver standing next to his beautiful automobile. I believe the car is a Nash Roadster from the 1930’s. The Nash nameplate can be seen on the grill of the automobile. Note the car’s thin tires and bug-eye headlights. This vintage snapshot photograph measures 5.5″ x 3.25″. SOLD

CDV PORTRAIT :HANDSOME WELL DRESSED MAN : NICE BEARD : BOHM : DENVER, COLORADO

This carte de visite photograph features a handsome man with a full wirey beard. He has piercing eyes. Writing on the reverse of the cdv identifies the gentleman as “Timothy Borden (Barden?). The photographer of this photograph is Charles Bohm of Denver, Colorado. His studio was located at 284 Fifteenth Street. He is cited in a number of sources as the former employer of Frank Albert Rinehart (1861-1928) who became a famous American artist for his photography capturing Native American personalities and scenes. To view the work of Alfred Edward Rinehart, Frank’s brother, click on the category “Photographer: Rinehart”. Charles Bohm was an engraver, a jeweler and a real estate developer. He was born in Germany in 1846 and his family came to the United States to escape the democratic revolution of 1848. For many years the Bohm family lived in New Jersey where he became an apprentice in a design and engraving business. After a two year trip to Denver, he returned to New York where he designed copper plates, illustrated magazines, and organized the Palette Art Club. In 1872 he moved back to Denver and established a business offering design, engraving and photographic portraiture. He was active in Denver society and was a trustee for the water company and the library. Apparently, he loved speed and was involved in racing cars, horses and sleds. SOLD

BERNSTEIN’S DELICATESSEN : STRICTLY KOSHER : NEW YORK CITY : POSTCARD

This linen vintage real photo postcard advetises Bernstein’s Delicatessen. The card proclaims that the restaurant is “strictly kosher”. The deli was located at Rivington and Essex streets, in the lower eastside of New York City. This postcard was postmarked sometime during the 1950’s. SOLD

CONSUELO : ARTIST SIGNED : W. HASKELL COFFIN : BRISTOL MYERS ADVERTISING : RPPC

This is an artist signed vintage postcard entitled “Consuelo”. The artist is W. Haskell Coffin (1878-1941). He was a painter and commercial artist popular in the early decades of the twentieth century. His work can be found on leading magazine covers as well as on posters commissioned by the US government. He specialized in painting images of women. He was one of the highest paid illustrators of his time. He had two marriages. His second wife was actress, Frances Starr. While being treated for depression at a Florida facility, Coffin committed suicide by jumping out a window. This artist signed postcard was made to advertise a Bristol Myer pharmaceutical product. The product was Ziratol, “a practically odorless antiseptic and germicide for office or home”.This advertising postcard was mailed to a doctor in Springfield, Massachusetts. The postcard was postmarked in Brooklyn, New York. SOLD

MAN WITH BOWLER HAT IN HAND: NORTH TOPEKA, KANSAS

A gentleman poses, “hat in hand” at the H. M. Atherton studio in North Topeka, Kansas. The gentleman is holding his bowler hat and has a pocket watch with an exposed chain. There is a book on the table behind the man. The props in this photograph compose a very nice interior setting. This cabinet card portrait is in excellent condition (see scans).

INK BLOTTER : R WILSON HAMMELL : ARTIST SIGNED : AD FOR SPORTING GOODS STORE

The art for this vintage ink blotter was done by Raymond Wilson Hammell (1896-1949). He was active and lived in Massachusetts. Hammell was well known for Pin-Up girl illustrations. His work appeared on magazine and book covers, calendars, and more. Some of his work was stand alone portraits. This advertising blotter is from the 1930 or 1940’s. The blotter advertises Thomas Brothers, a sporting goods store, including golf accessories, located in an unidentified hotel. It measures about 4 x 9 inches.and is in very good condition (see scans).

VAN NESS HOTEL : BURLINGTON VERMONT : POSTCARD : (1913)

This vintage postcard features the Van Ness Hotel, which was located in Burlington, Vermont. Also pictured are three horse drawn coaches and several pedestrians. The Van Ness opened in 1870.The brick building was on the site formerly occupied by the Howard House until it was destroyed by fire in 1867.  The Van Ness Hotel had a capacity of 400 guests. It hosted three US Presidents (William McKinley, Theodore Roosevelt, and Howard Taft). The Van Ness was considered “first class” and the best hotel in Burlington. The Van Ness burned down in 1951. When a new building went up on the site, it was occupied by the Howard Bank. In 2007, it became the TD Bank. The postcard has a 1913 postmark from Burlington. The card is in good condition. Note the small dent near the middle of the left edge of the front of the postcard.

This vintage real photo postcard features a pretty young woman posing for her portrait at the Photo Moderne studio in Trouville, France. The photographer did an excellent job in using lighting to accentuate this young lady’s beauty. SOLD
